WHY DO WE NEED PARENTS TO BE MEMBERS OF THE SQUADRON SPONSORING COMMITTEE?
Although there are no “fees” associated with the Cadet program, the cadet unit must pay insurance for every cadet. It is also important to realize that the Squadron must also raise money in order to offer optional activities in addition to the basic training program as funded by the Department of National Defence (DND).
This requires volunteer work from the parents of the Cadets and the Cadets themselves.
DND – Supported training & Resources
● Friday night training
● Survival exercises (FTX)
● Gliding days
● Travel to DND supported events
● Uniforms
● DND supported activities
SSC – Supported training & Resources
● Annual Cadet Insurance fees (Mandatory); Squadron must pay a fee for each Cadet in the unit
● All powered familiarization flying
● Squadron office expenses above the DND yearly allotment
● Squadron effective speaking program
● Optional Training resources / materials (i.e marksmanship mats & jackets; pipe band equipment and instruments, etc)
● Snacks & meals not covered by DND / Mess Dinners
● Squadron Trips
● Squadron extracurricular activities costs (i.e museum tours, recreational sports facilities, etc)
177 Squadron is supported by the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC). They require a commitment of parents/guardians to be involved with the SCC to maintain a more valuable experience for the Cadets in our Squadron. Without this support, many “optional” activities will not be available for the cadets.
Also, Parents are encouraged to attend the monthly Parent Meetings, even though you are not on the Parent Committee. We look for parent's opinions and ideas matters and require volunteering assistance for some activities.
We hope that you consider being part of the SCC. Many hands make light work! Thank you!!
